The 5 D's
In the process of transition, utilize the transition as an opportunity to see things from a new perspective and to try new things.

Bridges suggests five aspects of the natural ending experience:

Disengagement: Disengage yourself from your old "world" and the identity you had within it.

Dismantling: The emotional cognitive process in transition of the gradual stopping of thinking of themselves as part of a “we” and start thinking of themselves as “I." (Usually part of grieving for a loss.)

Dis-identification: You are no longer who you thought you were if you are defined by what you do.

Disenchantment: The signal that the time has come to look below the surface of what has been thought to be so. It is the sign that you are ready to see and understand more now. The disenchanted person recognizes the old view was sufficient in its time, but insufficient now.

Disorientation: The process of letting go of the past can bring up feelings of sadness, grief and loss as well as some relief or anticipation about the possible new future. During this time, confusion, forgetfulness, feeling lost and insecure are common for most people.
